"USA consumers need a better choice, and as a leader in technology and innovation, Huawei is prepared to fill this need", the company said in a statement provided to Reuters.

"We will sell our flagship phone, our product, in the USA market through carriers next year", Richard Yu, the president of Huawei Technologies' consumer business, said in a December interview, which was confirmed at the time by a Huawei spokesperson.

The Mate 10 Pro, launched in Europe in October with a price tag of 799 euros ($955), comes with AI-enhanced chips that Huawei, the world's third largest smartphone vendor, says process data faster than those used by Apple and Samsung. Now that this deal has fallen through, the Mate 10 Pro will only be available through online retailers such as Amazon and some brick and mortar stores such as Best Buy. The award will be presented during the CES show in Las Vegas from 9 to 12 January 2018. It's hard for any of us to determine the veracity of the alleged intelligence committee report without having seen the evidence, so ultimately it's up to you if you want to believe the report.

According to an explosive report out yesterday night by The Information, AT&T rescinded the deal at the last moment due to "political pressure".

The company has been trying to penetrate the USA market for years now and its success hinges on selling its phones through carriers.

That may be good news for consumers, but that not might bode well for Huawei. "We were hoping that the AT&T partnership would pave the way for similar deals with other USA carriers", a Huawei manager told The Information.

Huawei had planned several announcements for the CES event this week, including speculation that it was ready to reveal a sales tie-in with AT&T, according to the earlier reports. He added: "We will continue to move forward with the best technology and design to create pioneering experiences that will help users move forward and rely more and more on Huawei's handsets to accomplish all their business and everyday needs". The congress members were concerned that Huawei was closely tied to the Communist Party as well as to intelligence services in China.
