In an exceedingly tense interview Sunday morning, a top White House aide continued to deride a new book about the Trump administration while simultaneously downplaying Steve Bannon's role in it and defending President Trump'stweets about his intelligence.
"Now I have to put up with a Fake Book, written by a totally discredited author", Trump said.

Mr Wolff's book, Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House, paints an unflattering portrait of Mr Trump, claiming the President's staff - and even his family members - regard him as "like a child". In the book, Bannon makes a number of scathing critiques against Trump and his inner circle, including calling a meeting between Trump campaign officials with a Russian lawyer in Trump Tower during the presidential campaign "treasonous" and "unpatriotic".
When Tapper tried to get him back on track to talk about the meeting, Miller replied, 'I have no knowledge of anything to do with that meeting'.
Corey Lewandowski, Mr. Trump's former campaign manager, said Mr. Bannon had clearly crossed a line.
Tapper countered by saying, 'I think the viewers right now can ascertain who is being hysterical'.
"It happens to be a true statement", Miller said of the characterization. He urged his followers to "watch the hatred and unfairness of this CNN flunky!"
"I regret that my delay in responding to the inaccurate reporting regarding Don Jr has diverted attention from the president's historical accomplishments in the first year of his presidency", Bannon said.
"Actually, throughout my life, my two greatest assets have been mental stability and being, like, really smart", the president said in a tweet.
