Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah has dedicated his 2017 CAF Player of the Year award to kids in Africa and Egypt urging them to keep dreaming
The bigwigs of African football will come together in Accra, Ghana on Thursday to crown the best African footballer of 2017, and there can be no other victor than the Egyptian, Mohammed Salah. The Egypt forward scored the goal that secured his country a place at this year's World Cup, while he has been in superb form since signing for the Reds.
The Liverpool attacker beat competitions from his teammate Saido Mane and Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to claim the most coveted award.
He had something to prove back in the Premier League when he joined Liverpool last summer and he showed what Chelsea are missing by netting 23 goals before the turn of the year in all competitions.
"This is a dream come true for me".
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp allowed his two shortlisted players to attend the ceremony in Ghana despite his side playing Everton in the FA Cup on Friday.
"2017 was an unbelievable year for me with national team and my clubs".
The one who recently in December won BBC footballer of the year Award gathered 625 points from voters composed of national team coaches and captains as well as a selection of officials and journalists. Salah's victory capped a clean sweep of the three main African football awards for Egypt.
Salah scored 38 goals in 2017 for clubs and country - a large total for an inverted winger cum forward.
Last year Leicester's Algerian ace Riyad Mahrez won the honor, and prior to that Manchester City's Ivorian Yaya Touré was named player of the year for four successive years, from 2011 to 2014.
