One Tourist Killed, Several Injured In Luxor Hot Air Balloon Crash

All of those involved in the accident are believed to be foreign tourists.

In 2016, Egypt temporarily halted balloon flights after 22 Chinese tourists suffered minor injuries in a crash landing. The woman killed was a 36-year-old South African and the injured were tourists from Spain, South Africa and Argentina, according to a government official.

The mishap reportedly occurred at a time when the balloon was flying over the ancient Egyptian city.

The accident occurred in Luxor, in southern Egypt, which is popular with tourists due to its number of ancient temples and ruins.

The unstable weather and strong winds were behind the disturbance of the hot air balloon that led to the accident, several media reported.

One of the main attractions is the Karnak temple, which dates back thousands of years.

In 2015, at least 19 people, a lot of them Asian and European tourists, died near Luxor when a hot air balloon caught fire and crashed after a mid-air gas explosion.

Sixteen people were injured in a Luxor hot air balloon flight in 2011 as well.
