Veteran Atlanta television news anchor Amanda Davis has died following a stroke.

The station says she had a stroke Tuesday while waiting for a flight at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and was rushed to a hospital. She was on her way to Texas after the death of her stepfather.

The star had worked at Fox5 Atlanta for 26 years, retiring in 2013.

Davis leaves behind her mother and a daughter, writer Melora Rivera. Wednesday was the day her stepfather's funeral was scheduled to take place. "Amanda's friends and colleagues at CBS 46 are praying for her family", the station reported in a brief statement on its website. "After arrests for driving under the influence, Davis did a three-part series previous year revealing her alcoholism for the first time and her road to recovery".

AJC reported Davis posting on Twitter last week that her "pops" had died and his funeral was on Wednesday.

Davis graduated Magna Cum Laude from Clark Atlanta University.

She was also an anchor at CBS46, which she joined in January, who paid tribute to her when the news of her death broke.

On Sunday, the anchor posted to Facebook about celebrating Christmas after losing a loved one. Understandably, Amanda's family is asking for "privacy at this hard time".

What happened to Amanda Davis? "I remember meeting and taking a picture with her when was about 8 or 9 yrs old", recalled one woman on social media. During her time as a reporter, Amanda won various awards, including: the RTDNA Edward R. Murrow Award, Georgia Association of Broadcasters Gabby Award the Atlanta Association of Black Journalists Pioneer of the Year Award, and ten Southeast Regional Emmy Awards.
