Amazon Brings Web Browsing to Fire TV - Amazon - Press Room - Press Release

Is Amazon preparing OpenTube to compete with Google's YouTube as companies spar?

The chances of Amazon directly challenging Google with its own "non-downloadable pre-recorded audio, visual and audiovisual works via wireless networks on a variety of topics of general interest" would be something of a leap.

The addition of Web browsers to the Fire TV comes in the wake of Google's decision to pull YouTube support on the Echo Show and Fire TV. In retaliation, Jeff Bezos' company filed a trademark for something called "AmazonTube". The post further states, "While Amazon does not mention YouTube in its applications, the lengthy descriptions for the two names bare an interesting similarity to YouTube's main features". Although the trademarks don't necessarily mean the company plans to launch a new service, it does suggest that the company may be, at the very least, considering doing so.

For the past two years, Amazon has refused to sell Google Chromecast devices on its website.

In its "AmazonTube" trademark application, Amazon details a software streaming application that sounds pretty much identical to YouTube.

This streaming service would essentially be Amazon's latest weapon. However, it might include video clips from YouTube.

Amazon store is filled with many 3rd party browsers but having Firefox and silk will help consumers to consume content better.

So, in September, Google pulled off YouTube from Amazon Echo Show as it violated its terms of service.

In addition, Mozilla's Firefox browser will also be available on Fire TV devices. The entire feud may be thing of the past however, as Amazon has confirmed it will start listing Google Chromecast and Apple TV streaming devices - the primary reason for the whole spat. Armed with Amazon Web Services, its cloud computing platform, Amazon has unfettered access to the most powerful servers in the world. "Starting today, we will be able to expand the already great Fire TV experience by enabling viewers to surface a multitude of web content - including videos - through Firefox".
