The Creek fire, north of downtown LA, had destroyed 11,000 acres by Tuesday night, while the Rye fire devastated 7,000 acres by Monday morning.
"There was three major fires, one in Ventura and two in Los Angeles County", stated Battalion Chief Ross Macumber. A second firefighter was also injured, with Terrazas telling ABC7 the firefighter was burned when a propane tank exploded. The Southbound lanes of the 405 Freeway are now open through the Sepulveda pass, but the Northbound lanes are closed.
The fire has torn through the city of Ventura and has destroyed 120 buildings.
Osby said high winds hindered the deployment of firefighting fixed- wing aircraft, although more than a half-dozen water-dropping helicopters were being used in the effort.

One resident who was evacuated told KTLA he was surprised at how quickly the winds shifted.
The weather conditions were impeding efforts to contain and extinguish the out-of-control blaze, as strong, gusty winds fueled the "extreme" fire behavior, according to the inciweb incident information website.
Mauricio Umansky, CEO of luxury real estate brokerage The Agency, was monitoring the situation from the safety of his home in Encino, a neighborhood in the San Fernando Valley, where he and his family recently moved. Other structures were spotted burning on nearby Via Santa Barbara.
The mayor urged residents to heed orders to evacuate - saying, "Do not wait".
About 105 patients were voluntarily evacuated from Mountain View Convalescent Center in Sylmar. At most shelters, pets are allowed to stay with their owner or owners.
