Donald Trump's personal banking information handed over to Robert Mueller

G20 Leaders Meet In St. Petersburg For The Summit

Special Counsel Robert Mueller has spent more than $3.2 million in the opening months of his federal criminal investigation into Russian interference in last year's USA election and whether President Donald Trump or anyone close to him colluded in it. The Guardian reported in July that executives at the bank were anticipating they would receive a formal demand for banking records about the president and had already established informal contacts with Mueller's investigators.

The combined $6.7 million spent by Mueller's office and other offices supporting his investigation only covers the special counsel's investigation, not the various congressional investigations of Russia's meddling in the election.

Suffice it to say, for President Donald Trump's supporters who see the investigation as little more than a witch hunt, the reaction was not too pleasant.

A short time ago, Fox News White House Correspondent John Roberts tweeted that a source with knowledge of the investigation into Trump's finances had told him that Mueller's office never sent a subpoena to Deutsche Bank asking for the president's financial records.

"I don't make money from Russian Federation", he told The New York Times.

Deutsche Bank had been one of Trump's most reliable lenders. "Over the years, I've looked at maybe doing a deal in Russian Federation, but I never did one".

Despite previous denials due to privacy issues, Deutsche Bank - which has made loans to the Trump Organization for millions of dollars - finally delivered the required information to the investigation, something that implies that the special lawyer has come to the heart of the matter. He had reached a tentative agreement with the government. Mueller's subpoena to Deutsche Bank may be aimed at exploring those claims.

The Trump family's dealings with Deutsche Bank have been a focus of opponents for months.

"Deutsche Bank's pattern of involvement in money laundering schemes with primarily Russian participation, its unconventional relationship with the president, and its repeated violations of US banking laws all raise serious question about whether the bank's reported reviews of the trading scheme and Trump's financial ties to Russia were completely thorough", they wrote.

Trump had liabilities of at least $130 million to Deutsche Bank Trust Company Americas, a unit of the German bank, according to a federal financial disclosure form released in June by the U.S. Office of Government Ethics. Kushner also flatly denied Russian financial connections when he talked with members of Congress this fall.

Mr Trump has repeatedly denied any collusion with Russian Federation, calling the allegations a "witch hunt".
