White House Plays Down Importance Of Flynn Guilty Plea

ABC’s fake news about Flynn & Russia causes stocks to crash

Trump fired Flynn in February, citing an "evolving and eroding level of trust" after the former national security adviser lied to Vice President Mike Pence about his interactions with Kislyak. "My guilty plea and agreement to cooperate with the Special Counsel's Office reflect a decision I made in the best interests of my family and of our country".

Retired general Michael Flynn, who was President Trump's national security adviser before resigning in February, will plead guilty on Friday to making a false statement to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, multiple sources reported.

But, he said, "through my faith in God, I am working to set things right".

"I do not know what sentence I will impose on this case", Contreras said.

But the ABC report, which suggested for the first time that Flynn will point the finger at Trump directly, sent shudders through a market that has been breaking record after record in recent months.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller has charged Flynn with "willfully and knowingly" making "false, fictitious and fraudulent statements" to the agency about his conversations with Russia's ambassador, Sergey Kislyak.

Former FBI Director James Comey, whose firing in May precipitated the appointment of Mueller as special counsel, has said Trump had asked him in a private Oval Office meeting to consider ending the investigation into Flynn. His bombshell admission that he coordinated his calls with Kislyak with a senior transition official raises the specter that Mueller could bring charges against other current or former administration officials.

A December 29 call between Flynn and Trump advisers discussed the potential impact on the "incoming administration's foreign policy goals", according to a court filing Friday. Flynn also told authorities he did not recall the ambassador "subsequently telling him that Russian Federation has chosen to moderate its response to those sanctions as a result of his request", according to a court filing.

In the second statement Flynn made on December 22, 2016, Flynn denied asking a Russian Ambassador to delay or defeat a United Nations Security Council resolution.

The Obama administration, in a rare step that shocked its Middle East ally, planned to abstain on the motion rather than veto it as had been done in the past. "It was about the 35 guys who were thrown out", Flynn told the Daily Caller at the time.

"Nothing about the guilty plea or the charge implicates anyone other than Mr. Flynn", he said.

"The false statements involved mirror the false statements to White House officials which resulted in his resignation in February of this year", Cobb said.

The opposition Democratic Party was quick to slam Trump.

During the Republican National Convention in July 2016, when Trump was officially nominated as the GOP's candidate, Flynn led the entire convention in a repeated chant of "Lock her up!" When asked how he pleaded, Flynn only said, "Guilty, your honor".

Three others have been charged in the Mueller probe.

Next, Flynn can tell Mueller what, if anything, he knows about the contacts between Russian Federation and a series of Trump officials in 2016, including meetings, emails, phone calls and trips involving Paul Manafort, Rick Gates, Donald Trump Jr., Jared Kushner, Carter Page, Roger Stone and George Papadopoulos.
