Saudi Arabia, Arab allies to hold Cairo talks on Iran, Hezbollah

Iran Accuses Saudi Arabia of Pushing for War

On Sunday, the Arab League held an extraordinary general meeting in Cairo, at the request of Saudi Arabia, as tensions soar between the regional arch-rivals, including over League member Lebanon.

"The decision of the Arab League on Iranian intervention today was historical and sends a clear message on the effectiveness of joint Arab action", Dr Anwar Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, said late on Sunday.

"The Lebanese Republic, in spite of our relations with it as a brotherly Arab nation.is under the total control of this terrorist party", said Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al-Khalifa, referring to the powerful Shiite movement.

The House of Saud has been losing ground in the multi-religious Mediterranean state, and the Bahraini foreign minister at the Arab League summit called Lebanon's Hezbollah militia "Iran's longest arm in the region". He alleged, "Iranian threats have gone beyond all limits and pushed the region into a unsafe abyss".

Earlier Sunday, Abul Gheit said the missile fired at Riyadh was made in Iran.

The Arab League accused Hezballah of "supporting terrorism and extremist groups in Arab countries with advanced weapons and ballistic missiles", in its declaration.

Netanyahu says he and Macron agreed to meet to "see if we can adopt similar approaches, as much as possible, concerning this threat and the nuclear agreement with Iran".

"Firing the ballistic missiles toward Riyadh and the bombing of oil pipeline in Bahrain are all risky developments emanating from the Iranian agenda", Al-Mekhlafi continued.

The meeting was chaired by Djibouti's Foreign Minister and current chairman of the Arab Council of Foreign Ministers, Mahmoud Ali Yusuf, at the headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo and was attended by 15 ministers and six ministerial representatives.

A leader in Hariri's Future Movement had earlier told Reuters Hariri would visit Egypt on Monday.

In statements posted on Twitter, Aoun said Lebanon could not be held "responsible" for regional conflicts. Saudi Arabia and Hariri both deny those accusations. Israel had also admitted providing medical support to the "civilians" injured in Syria.

According to Marwan Bishara, a senior political analyst has said that Saudi Arabia had convened the Cairo meeting in a bid to "consolidate its position in a divided Arab region".

"Immediate and effective solutions are needed against recent Iranian intervention in the region", he said.

They also demanded Hezbollah stop intervening in regional conflicts and spreading extremism and sectarianism.
