Saints rally late beat Redskins in OT

Drew Brees and the ascendent New Orleans Saints were having a decidedly "meh" game for most of the day against Washington.

While the Saints have lost three of their last five games to the Redskins, that should not be the case in this Sunday's game.

The Redskins held a 15-point advantage over the New Orleans Saints late in the fourth quarter.

The Saints cut the deficit to 24-16 on Lutz's 42-yard field goal with 9:19 left, a drive that was set up by Tommylee Lewis' 24-yard punt return to the New Orleans 49.

The former TCU All-American has made several jaw-dropping plays over the past few weeks and against the Saints he was back at it.

The final drop in win probability had to wait for overtime, as the Redskins squandered the final 1:05 of regulation with a drive that included a botched screen pass that led to an intentional grounding penalty that dropped them out of field goal range. Kamara was the man on the tying two-point conversion, taking a flip from Brees around left end into the end zone. They faced only one third down and tight end Coby Fleener caught passes of 24 and 25 yards.

Thompson was engaged with Saints safety Vonn Bell while blocking for a scrambling Kirk Cousins.

Saints quarterback Drew Brees could see the tide turn in the Black and Gold's favor. The Saints had 535 yards of offense while the Redskins had 456 yards. Brees was held to under 200 yards passing for the second time this season and didn't throw a single touchdown.

The Saints looked nothing like a team on a seven-game winning streak. The Saints won despite converting just 4 of 12 on third down and losing the turnover battle 1-0. Lattimore, the No. 11 pick in the 2017 NFL draft and one of the league's top rookies this season, tried to play again but had to leave the game.
