While Angus' schoolboy outfit and onstage aggression made him the focal point of the band throughout its career, his older brother's crushing rhythm guitar anchored the band musically, and his no-nonsense toughness anchored it in virtually every other way. Rolling Stone said at the time, he was having cognitive problems but chose to continue to perform during the tour, which he had to oftentimes relearn guitar parts that he had written. The band's album Back In Black was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2013. It remains one of the top 10 best-sellers in RIAA history. The Young brothers co-wrote most of their material, including trademark hits such as "Highway To Hell, ' 'You Shook Me All Night Long" and 'For Those About To Rock (We Salute You)'. As The New York Times noted in 2008, "Since 1991, when Nielsen SoundScan started tracking music sales, this Australian band has sold 26.4 million albums, second only to The Beatles in catalog sales, and more than The Rolling Stones or Led Zeppelin".

Def Leppard's Joe Elliott, Eddie Van Halen, Ozzy Osbourne, and Ryan Adams were among the members of the music industry honoring Malcolm Young, the AC/DC guitarist who died at the age of 64.

In the 1980s, Malcolm Young's battle with alcoholism forced him to leave the band temporarily; during that break, Stevie Young also filled in for his uncle. The band won its first Grammy in 2010, for best hard rock performance, with the song "War Machine".

Young and his brother Angus created AC/DC in the early 1970s.

Paul Stanley of Kiss called it "a tragic end for a sometimes unsung icon", referring to Young as "the driving engine of AC/DC".

It was odd for him, Angus told Rolling Stone, "but he was always a confident guy, and we made it work". His loyalty to the fans was unsurpassed.

For those wishing to send messages to the family please visit the Sydney Morning Herald Malcolm Young Memorial website which will be available next week. Angus is in fact the younger sibling.
