Cassidy, in an appearance on the talk show "Dr. Phil" earlier this year, opened up about the diagnosis, saying his mother and grandfather also both suffered from dementia.
The actor's rep told ABC News that Cassidy was in an induced coma but that "he is now conscious and surrounded by family". We're told he's suffering from organ failure and unless he gets a liver transplant soon he could soon die.
"He was in an induced coma, but as of right now is conscious".

The news comes after the actor revealed in February that he has dementia.
"When friends of yours or family members begin to say to you, 'Remember, I just told you this two days ago, ' and there's no memory of it, that's when I began to be very concerned", he shared at the time.
Cassidy has dealt with substance abuse issues and bankruptcy since finding success early in his life.
