"The World Cup is still a long season away and I still want to improve until the end of the season.I think there's a chance but I have to keep learning, keep getting better and hopefully I can be considered for the plane", the 21-year-old said after the 0-0 draw on Friday night.

"But I still think I am not in the best condition right now because I have had injuries at the start of the season which hindered my development and fitness". I don't think the wider public will be as aware of him, you would have to have followed him very closely, but we believe in him and the others we played. But Loftus-Cheek was deservedly named man of the match. I have to say huge credit to the clubs for developing the sort of players they are developing, but we would be foolish not to see the signs of Spain and Germany being successful following on from success at youth level and sticking with some continuity with the way they play and the people involved.

Liverpool striker Solanke opened the scoring in Kiev, continuing the fine worldwide form that saw him win the Golden Ball as England lifted the Under-20 World Cup in the summer.

Loftus-Cheek said: "In these last two or three years I have had to be really patient".

"It took him 10 minutes to realise he's OK here", the England boss told the BBC. "I have a good relationship with Eddie Newton [Chelsea's loan technical coach] and Eddie is helping me behind the scenes".

The Chelsea midfielder, on-loan at Crystal Palace, impressed at the base of the Three Lions midfield against the world champions on his global bow.

You sense, talking to Loftus-Cheek, that he has a sensible head on his shoulders.

"He's certainly made really important saves tonight and of course with his feet, he gives the team a different dimension as well".

"It was a brilliant experience for our players and we've now got to see if we can try and replicate that against a side who rested a lot of their players today on Tuesday".

"I just tried to soak it all in and I am really pleased with it".

"He's got so many good attributes and that's why we put him into the team".
