Staley High School students give hero's welcome ahead of Veterans Day

Spring Mills Middle School's 'Patriots' honor veterans

In a statement, Principal Robert Bruce called the school's annual Salute to Veterans event "a great opportunity for our students to gain a better understanding of the sacrifices made by the fearless men and women who have served our country".

On November 11, 1918, the Armistice was signed in the Forest of Compiegne by the Allied Nations and Germany, ending World War I, "The War to End All Wars", after four years of conflict, the statement read. Some of the events are actually on Veterans Day - Saturday - and some are on other days.

ARLINGTON- A Veterans Day program will be held Friday, November 10 at the Sibley East Middle High School in Arlington in the school gym. Registration is closed, but they are planning on 110 veterans, according to American Legion Pressman Kosters Post 329 Commander Arlyn Kleinwolterink.


The event held in the school's gymnasium on Tuesday included veterans speaking to Franklinville Elementary about their military service and current civilian life. He says it's catered by Hy-Vee and all vets are welcome. "After calls back and forth, the principal, called me back and said to me, 'Why don't you present for the whole school?' that led to generating an itinerary for the presentation and finding people who could help". It's at 7:30 p.m.in Christ Chapel on the campus of Northwestern College in Orange City. The program is free and open to the public.

The day will conclude at the Elks Lodge with a social hour at 5:30 p.m. Veterans and their spouses will be served roast beef dinner at 6:30 p.m. courtesy of Elks Lodge 1737 in appreciation for their service.

This was the last Veteran's Day ceremony for the JROTC instructor Major Daniel Rancourt after 22 years at the school. The colors will be posted by Jack Sauter Post 404 American Legion of George. ROTC, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. The band will play the National Anthem.
