Rutgers turned in solid numbers in the latest Graduation Success Rate report released by the NCAA

Western Kentucky had three teams post flawless scores and all Hilltopper and Lady Topper sport programs scored well above the Federal Graduation Rate in the NCAA's most recent release of the Graduation Success Rate Report.

The NCAA developed the Graduation Success Rate formula, or GSR, as part of its 2003 academic reform initiatives to better measure student-athlete academic success. Statistics represent students that began their studies during the 2010-11 academic year. This year's change was marked by a 3 percent increase from last year for African-American athletes, to 77 percent from 74 percent.

The federal graduation rate for all Division I athletes this year was 68 percent, compared to 66 percent for all students at colleges and universities that play Division I sports.

"In the past decade, we have worked purposefully to provide additional support and encouragement to assist more than 460 Razorback student-athletes annually in achieving academics and athletics success while advancing toward graduation". It differs from the federal graduation rate in several ways, most notably by not penalizing schools that have transfers who depart in good academic standing and by counting transfers who enroll into a school in good academic standing. Another 14 are at 85 percent or above in the GSR: baseball, men's golf, men's hockey, men's lacrosse, men's swimming, women's basketball, women's golf, women's cross country/track, women's ice hockey, women's lacrosse, women's soccer, softball, women's swimming and synchronized swimming. Tech has posted an all-time best GSR each year since 2013. "We know our student-athletes' time here is relatively brief; what Athletic Director Doug Knuth and his staff have accomplished is a strong sense in our student-athletes that the attainment of a college degree will help them throughout the course of their lives". This calculation makes it a more complete and accurate look at student-athlete success.

Eleven teams (baseball, men's basketball, football, golf, men's skiing, men's tennis, women's basketball, cross country/track, gymnastics, women's tennis and volleyball) exceeded the overall Division I GSR for their sport.

In addition to the five teams that garnered ideal GSR scores, eight programs posted scores of 90 percent or better including women's cross country and track & field (91 percent), women's ice hockey (93 percent), women's lacrosse (96 percent), women's soccer (92 percent), softball (94 percent), women's swimming (95 percent), baseball (95 percent), and men's ice hockey (90 percent).
