Fan sues Bears over banning him from wearing Packers gear on field

Packers fan suing Bears over ability to wear rival gear on field

"Due to the prohibition that forbids wearing visiting team apparel while participating in this specific experience, the Bears have, without any compelling or reasonable cause, or constitutionally mandated reason, deprived me of my ability to fully enjoy this specific on-field experience and the general experience of the Bears Packer game at Soldier Field", Beckman wrote in the lawsuit.

A die-hard Green Bay Packers fan married the woman of his dreams and took her last name.

The next major decision between the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers could come in a courtroom, not on the field.

Before the 2016 season, the Bears launched a new program that allowed fans to cash in points earned through a loyalty program for fan experiences.

"I go to one game in Chicago every year", Beckman said.

Beckman says he got an e-mail a few days before the game saying fans could not wear the other team's gear. Less than a week before the game, he received an email from the Bears stating fans could not partake in the event while wearing opposing team gear.

"I'm going to wear my Packer gear to the game", Beckman said. But for last season's event, the on-field credential stated, "No visiting team clothing allowed".

"I like the rivalry", Beckman said. "I spent eight hours doing interviews", Beckman said. "She was a lot harder to find on the dance floor once I showed up in the suit", he said with a laugh. Since the Bears sold him a ticket, they should let him wear the colors of his choice. "I believe this new policy is misguided and contrary to both common sense and to the NFL's operational mission statement".

We heard from Kyle and Brittany Zalovick, two Packers fans from Maryland who had a fantastic replica cake of Lambeau Field made for their wedding this past weekend. Will your bartenders refuse to accept that card and insist that I pay with a Bear version of this card? He said he stood "arm in arm" with Bears fans who are friends.

Beckman, who has owned a Bears' personal seat license since 2003, used his reward points for a "pregame warm-up field experience", which allowed him to stand beside the field for the Bears and Packers warm-ups.
