Williams, who has been the coach of the team since 2013, said in a statement that he was not wounded but a member of his staff, who he identified as Zack Barth, was injured.
The perpetrator, believed to be armed with a rifle, was allegedly arrested and sent to the hospital after being shot by U.S. Capitol law enforcement, reports Fox News.
Williams said he dove into the concrete floor of the first-base dugout, which he described as being "like diving into a swimming pool without water".

Shots rang out around 8 a.m. ET during Wednesday's baseball practice for Republican congressmen in Alexandria, Virginia.
