Peace Officer Memorial ceremony held at State Capitol
This year's events included the 36th annual National Peace Officers' Memorial Service, held on Monday at the U.S. Capitol; and the National Police Survivors Conference and C.O.P.S. Kids/Teens event, held Tuesday.
The public is invited, but parking will be limited. The service is taking part at 11025 Voyager Parkway in Colorado Springs. "The sacrifice, the honor, the courage (police officers) put on a daily basis; it's unfortunate that on a yearly basis officers are killed in the line of duty, and this day and basically this week is their time to be remembered".
Seventh-grader Sam Hendrix will give the speech this year. Ted Foss, and Winona County Sheriff's Investigator John Schneider, the continuing loss of law enforcement officers is a tragic loss to the entire nation.
"It's to honor those who have died in the line of duty and to honor and support their families", said Patrolman Rick Smiedendorf, the school resource officer for the Berrien Springs Oronoko Twp.

President Trump's plan to improve the lives of law enforcement officers and their families is admirable. "I think it's nice that everyone took time out of their schedules to come out here and show respect and honor for these young men and women who sacrificed their lives for the city and for everyone here".
"Police officers and staff, are ordinary people doing an extraordinary role to protect their communities".
I am grateful that National Police Week gives us a moment to pause to honor these fearless public servants and to reflect on their commitment and valor.
